Story
I am taking part in Pedal For Scotland's Classic cycle on 10 September 2017 with a very good and much fitter friend of mine Mr Glen Henderson (my chaperone!). This is a 45 mile cycle from Glasgow to Edinburgh. Those that know me will know I am not the fittest thesedays (understatement of the year), so this will be a real test.
All proceeds will be donated to Dwarf Sports Association UK, Scottish branch
The DSAuk promotes grass roots participation starting young athletes from the age of two. They use sport as a tool to break down the barriers of difference within society and to encourage confidence and empower our members. It is so important that the members feel valued and that are encouraged that they can do anything in life. The DSA empower people to go on to enjoy all kinds of sport, in which they can compete equally and should they wish to go further they are guided on to the correct pathway to world class performance within the National Governing Bodies of Sport as with our most successful paralympians, Ellie Simmonds and Matt Whorwood have done.
As a family, funded by the DSAuk, we attended the National Dwarf Games on Saturday 30th April at Alexander Stadium, Birmingham, with our youngest daughter, Molly, who competed in the under 4's, pictured above in action in the discuss (aka Frisbee) throw.
Molly was diagnosed with achondroplasia (a genetic condition leading to disproportionate short stature) at 8 months. Since joining the DSA Molly has participated in many sporting activities. The charity does fantastic work making sports accessible to people with restricted growth throughout the UK. See www.dsauk.org for more details.
