Story
i need your help. My relationship with my fiancé recently has broken down and he has now moved out of the rented property. i have a beautiful 17 month old little girl. now he has left we now need to support ourselves. I have been to citizens advice, they told me i need to apply for universal credit ( which i have) when i showed them the tenancy agreement because it has his name on it too, she told me i needed an amended tenancy agreement to get full housing benefit payments. so i contacted my landlord and told him the situation. He then provided me with a new tenancy but wanted me to sign for another fixed 6 months ( current one at the time was rolling contract) and also decided to bump the rent up by £25 a week !! just because I'm here on my own and will have no choice but to claim universal credit!!! that nocks my rent up to £675pm but housing benefit only is covered up to £535pm of it. so i some how need to make up the difference. i currently work 2 nights however i simply cannot afford childcare costs. Citizens advice told me not to sign the contract as i am unable to cover the costs of living here. after spending days in and out of Housing at the council i have been told that we are not entitled to housing until we are actually homeless or handed an eviction notice. of course as a mum the last thing i want is to put my daughters security at risk. i have put myself on the housing list but i have been told that with my current circumstances we could be waiting up to 4 years for a two bedroom property until we are physically homeless then it will be nocked down to a 6 month wait if we move into a hostel, I'm terrified of moving into a hostel, with a history of domestic abuse, I'm trying my best to keep hold of our home for our security! my ex's wants his bond back for the current property which stands at £900 so i cant even use that as a back up! . he wants to not pay any child Maintanace until its paid back to him! which i simply cannot afford to survive without child Maintanace as it stands. my only other option is i need to find somewhere else to rent, but i don't have any savings, so i cant get the bond together!!! i feel totally trapped and like a total failure to my little girl. citizens advice are being useless, and universal credit are only giving me £450 at the end of this month till i sign this new tenancy agreement, so they can evaluate my housing costs! i have just over £1k to pay out in rent and bills as of the 1st and i don't have the money to do it!! no one seems to be helping me, and i just didn't know what else to do. i cannot sign the new tenancy as it traps us into a 6 month contract we cannot afford. there are several other properties in the area, which will cover our needs and are affordable for the income i am now on. but i just cannot get the bond together. i need to raise £1,000 so we can move into somewhere affordable and provide security for us both. if anyone can help us we would be very grateful. this is our final option. i feel like the system has totally failed us. please help, one very scared mummy!
