Story
We want to change the lives of the children living at a refugee camp in Berlin through skateboarding!
We spent a week at a refugee camp in Berlin. The three of us, being skateboarders ourselves, brought along as many boards as possible. They were an instant favourite of the children, who had never had access to this equipment before. The camp accomodates up to 200 refugees and there is minimal to do, particularly for the children.
The excitement was second to none as we arrived each day with our boards; within 30 seconds of walking through the door we had a large group of children all ready wrapped up in warm clothes to head over to the small area next to the camp where we would play for hours on end. Some were learning new tricks, others just sliding across the room and having races! We even had teenagers and adults joining us to skate.
We were told by the camp coordinator how the whole atmosphere about the camp had changed since our arrival and the happiness skateboarding created could clearly be seen amongst everyone.
Unfortunately we could not stay any longer at the camp and we could not leave our equipment....
.....so that's why we want to raise some money to purchase the camp it's own skateboarding equipment and allow these children to continue skateboarding and enjoying their childhood!
