    Story

We are a group of old men that entered the Snowdon Marathon in 2016 after a New Year’s Eve Party that saw us drink too much Tequila. We didn’t learn our lesson and entered the race again this year. For a number of reasons it was looking like we wouldn’t be doing it until the events of the last week or so and the impact on our community. No of us knew Liam that well but two of our boys Jack Pennington and Ben Sim play for Holywell u19's, the team that Liam was part of. All have all been deeply touched by the horrific event that saw Liam lose his life. So we have decided that we could do our bit and raise some money for Liam’s family. We won’t all get around the 26 miles but we will have a go. A little bit about the 6 of us:
Rich Sim 53 – diagnosed with throat Cancer shortly after completing the marathon in 2016, his goal was to get back to the start line in 2017, he will be there.
Mike Gibson 50 – Iron Man / multiple marathons until November last year where a knee injury has ended his running career, he will be there and his son Owen(18) will be running with us.
Chris Gibson 53 – Has the best chance of finishing of the lot of us. Hardly trains but always finishes.
Gareth Furnival 55 – Climber, bike rider, started training for marathon in January, only lasted a few weeks!
Tom Hughes 52– Knees are shot but will be there
Roy Pennington 50 , baby of the group, just turned 50, swore he would never go near Snowdon again after last year but has no excuse.

Mission accomplished! All made it back in one piece. A few weeks ago we we were not sure if we would do it, so glad we did for lots of reasons. Fantastic support all the way round. Thanks to everyone who has donated. We set a target of £250 and have doubled that. Once the page closes next week we will pass on the money raised to Liam’s family.

4 days to go, fingers crossed the weather is better than last weekend. Tapering down from not a lot to nothing has been easy, we may regret it on Saturday! Thanks again to everyone for donating and/or sharing the page. 26 miles and one of Europe’s toughest marathons is nothing to what Liam’s family have been through.
