Story
We are SolidariTea – volunteers travelling in a converted van along the refugee Balkan route serving tea, showing solidarity and promoting an inclusive community amongst refugees.
This spring we will be on the road, starting in Serbia and crossing land and sea. Your donation will help us buy stock and keep our van moving making this simple act of kindness possible.
We want to do something sustainable and simple. The truck will create a safe space for refugees and provide them with hot drinks and homemade soup on their journey to future safety in Europe.
We hope to create a gathering place and be a source of positive friendly faces, a free café if you will. Chairs, tables, musical instruments, shelter, a firepit and plenty of tea will be provided on a daily basis. We will set up inside camps and also run emergency tea provison for people sleeping on the streets and at boat landings on the shore in Italy and Greece.
We have both been working in a refugee camp on Chios, Greece for the past four months. As we went about daily camp life we noticed how much of an important role tea played in the wellbeing and happiness of the residents. So we thought up SolidariTea; A moving café where people come to reflect, relax, meet new people, warm up and most of all, to distract oneself, if only for a moment, from the fear of tomorrows uncertainty.
We'll use your donation to buy teabags, coffee, milk, cups, biscuits, sugar, ingredients for soup and other essential items for on the road, as well as helping to cover petrol and insurance for the van; you can be sure your money will go to directly to support refugees. Please let us know if you can donate any stock directly
No-one believes that a cup of tea can solve the biggest refugee crisis to hit the European continent since WWII but neither can we accept that even this most basic act of welcome holds value. Hence we will offer a hand of friendship to those most in need.
