Story
In April of this year, our family was given the devastating news that my mum had got breast cancer. There were no signs or symptoms; it was only diagnosed through a routine mammogram. After several weeks and tests, she has now started her battle against breast cancer. She is the strongest and most positive person I know and I know this journey she has to face will only make her stronger. In support of my mum's journey me and my friend have decided to do a sponsored head shave in school, where my friend will donate her hair to the Little Princess Trust. We will also be raising money for The Osbourne Trust, Little Lifts, and Breast Cancer Now. These charities have become a lifeline to our family, providing us with much-needed support at a time when we need it most.
The Osbourne Trust offers support for children who have a parent going through cancer. They provided me and my two brothers with a £10 Amazon gift voucher each and two £20 cinema vouchers for us to use as a family and make memories together. They offer up to three local activities during a parent's treatment for the whole family to enjoy. They've helped over 1,700 families and 3,400 kids since 2015 and aim to make this more with the aid of people's donations like yours. Through times of darkness, these small acts of kindness make a real difference in people's lives.
Little Lifts provides a free gift box for breast cancer patients who are undergoing chemo or radiotherapy. Many of the products in the box may help with the side effects associated with chemo or radiotherapy to make things that little bit easier and bring a smile to the face of those who receive one. My mum was overwhelmed when she received hers and has already made good use of many of the items. So far 19,857 Little Lifts boxes have been gifted and the charity wants to continue providing them for free with your donations.
Breast Cancer Now is one of the few research groups that focus on researching breast cancer. They also provide support for people who are going through treatment by pairing them with someone similar to them called 'someone like me'. This allowed my mum to talk to someone who had been in a similar situation to herself and understand more of what's going to happen. Without donations, they wouldn't be able to continue their vital research and offer support for breast cancer patients.
Finally, Little Princess Trust uses real hair that has been donated by donors to create wigs for people up to the age of 24. They use the donations collected to provide the wigs for free to children and young people. They also fund childhood cancer research so they can find kind and more effective treatments.
All of these charities do exceptional things that wouldn't be possible without donations. Please help us to help these smaller charities in their mission by donating whatever you can to our sponsored head shave.
A little kindness goes a long way.
