    Story

Springwood Mindfulness Sanctuary is a privately funded, non-profit horse sanctuary, near Petworth in West Sussex. It is here that a beautiful, free-roaming herd of rescued and rehabilitated horses, ponies and donkeys enjoy a natural and truly peaceful existence.

Due the the ongoing COVID-19 situation, unfortunately much of the funding for the sanctuary has been withdrawn, including the main sponsor, leaving the future of the herd uncertain and in financial difficulty.

Your generosity and support is essential to ensure we can care for the herd through the next months in these desperate times, as unfortunately our normal methods of fundraising through visitor retreats and fundraising events are simply not possible during this trying period.

    More about the sanctuary

The sanctuary provides the herd a stunning prairie of wild medicinal plants, undulating expanses of unsprayed meadow grasses to graze and stretch their legs in carefree abandon and many sacred groves of trees which the herd can explore and find natural shelter.

Our herd are looked after by our loving community of volunteers, all of whom are passionate about caring for and bringing these beautiful animals a peaceful life.

In addition to supporting these rescued animals, the sanctuary provides mindfulness retreats and volunteering for people struggling with mental health difficulties. Spending time in the company of the these calm and peaceful animals, with such a close proximity to nature can be truly rewarding.

    The herd

The horses, ponies and donkeys we have rescued have sadly experienced extreme past trauma - many of them were due to be put to sleep because they were unable to be rehabilitated in conventional ways after they had been deemed to no longer 'serve their purpose' in the racing, polo, petting farm and riding school industries. Our many years of holistic equine experience, combined with animal healing and communication techniques have enabled a unique and incredibly effective way of rehabilitation for even the most troubled souls - the herd now live peacefully and thrive in both mind, body and spirit.

    Your donations

We realise that many across the world are struggling during these trying times and therefore we want to assure you that your donations will be put to good use and without any overhead or expenses diminishing the impact that you can have to supporting these beautiful animals.

Any donations will go directly to the herd, to support them and enable them to continue to thrive.

The sanctuary costs around £2000 per month to run including; rent of the land, food, vets, dentistry and feet trimming. Our target is to raise enough to ensure we can continue throughout this COVID-19 crisis and back to stability.

The herd is looked after purely on a volunteer basis and therefore we rely heavily on our loving and supportive volunteers to continue to care for the herd. If you would like to help out by volunteering, then please get in touch via our website.
