Story
As some of you know, I spent 6 weeks volunteering in Sri Lanka last year for a wonderful organisation called Volunteer Sri Lanka, which is based in Galle on the South West coast:
http://www.volunteersrilanka.net/Pages/default.aspx
The charity is run by an amazing man called Janaka, who has recently been in contact with myself and a few of the other volunteers, regarding the recent catastrophic flooding which has hit the island.
Landslides and floods in Sri Lanka have killed at least 164 people and the country faces the risk of more mudslides as torrential rains continue.
Helicopters are searching for people marooned four days after the worst floods and mudslides to hit Sri Lanka in 14 years overcame parts of the country's southwest.
With more rain expected, rescuers were racing to evacuate villagers from the most vulnerable areas as emergency teams rushed to distribute aid to nearly half a million people driven from their homes by the island's worst flooding in a decade.
Janaka is working to arrange relief support and aid, for those affected, and is in desperate need of donations to make this possible. All donations will go directly to him, and be used to facilitate the distribution of supplies and resources to those who have been displaced, or who have lost their homes in this catastrophe.
We would all massively appreciate any donation, no matter how small.

7 years agoThank you all very much for your generous donations to this cause. I've been in contact with Janaka this morning and he is extremely grateful, and asked me to pass on his appreciation. The funds raised are being used to facilitate medicinal supplies, and a health camp which is being arranged by Janaka and taking place at the end of the month for those who are unable to afford their own medicinal care. The money will also be used to replace school supplies that were lost during the floods, including school books, uniforms, shoes etc.
