Story
I am sure that you are probably aware of the current fire crisis that is happening in Australia. There are fires burning throughout, including Mrs Burchell's home city.
'I`m heartbroken for the lives that have been lost, thousands of homes that have been destroyed, and the billion animals that have died. I personally have friends who are grieving having lost homes and businesses'.
Just to put it into perspective, the recent fires in the Amazon saw 2.24 million acres of nature tragically lost. The current fires in Australia have already destroyed 15 million acres of wildlife and land. And there is no sign of them slowing down. It is predicted that the fires will continue to rage into April.
This has become an international issue now. We need the help of everyone around the world. It has been so encouraging for Australians to see other nations send fire-fighters to Australia, raise money or send messages of support.
We are a school that prides itself on being ‘global thinkers’, who action out care and compassion. Many staff and students at St Michael`s have become passionate about playing a part to help this dire situation.
We have decided to launch a JustGiving page in order to raise money. In order to raise funds we will have a number of school activities going on. Including, an ‘I`m a Teacher Get Me Out of Here’ bush tucker trial on Tuesday, 28th January. Students will pay to vote for teachers that will have to participate.
To ensure that you know your money is going straight into the hands of the people that need it, the money that the school raises will be personally delivered by Mrs Burchell to both charities in Australia in mid-February.
Your donations will be incredibly helpful and gratefully received as many of the rescue and support teams working in Australia are entirely volunteer and donation based, not government funded.
