This is my nephew Fletcher. He is ten years old and has cerebral palsy. This means that he cannot walk, run or dance or do the things that we take for granted. He was born at 36 weeks with his twin brother Kennedy. The reason for his early birth was because he and his twin had twin to twin transfusion syndrome. Luckily with some early intervention he had a pioneering operation in utero and was born a healthy 6lb. Unfortunately, the euphoria that we felt when he was born, was lost as Fletcher contracted a mystery virus aged 10 days and was rushed back to the Children’s Hospital where he was kept with his twin in Critical Care for a month and then in a variety of Hospital Wards until his release. This virus had attacked his premature brain and he was left with catastrophic brain damage. Fletcher may not be able to walk or talk but in an instant he can win you over with his beautiful smile and special kisses. We want to raise money for a special standing frame to keep Fletchers legs and spirit strong. The frame is expensive but he has grown out of his old one and there is nothing more that Fletcher likes, than to listen to his favourite music and stand and gaze at the world around him.
