    Story

In the summer of 2019, I will be travelling to Nakuru in Kenya with 40 other young people from my school. In total, I have to raise £2,480 to cover the cost of my travel, accommodation and vaccinations by February 2019. I've already raised £360 via cake sales, saving pocket money and the support of my family. I'm aiming to raise my next instalment via JustGiving. I have lots of other exciting fundraising projects planned for the next year and I'll update my progress and share photos via this page.

During our time in Nakuru, we will be working In the communities where the cost of an education is out of reach for many. We will be working with schools that have been set up by local people to give children the chance of a better future.

We will be helping to support the staff in the schools by supporting the children's learning during lessons, helping to deliver sports activities before and after the school day and generally supporting the enrichment of the children's education.

We will also have the opportunity to get physical and help with local school building and regeneration projects to support the bricks and mortar provision needed to house the children at school.

Children and young people combined make up around half of Kenya's population. Many children drop out of the free, public schools before reaching eighth grade because their families poverty prevents them from buying school uniforms and shoes, books, pencils and notebooks. By supporting this project and volunteering during our time in Kenya, we are aiming to help children stay in education for longer so they can have a better opportunity of self sufficiency in adulthood.
