Story
I'm 16 years of age and so far have been entitled to a state education. Now I am at college doing 3 A levels, I have been given the opportunity to go to Kenya as part of African Adventures. This is an organisation set up to assist and promote education in various African countries where many children have no right or opportunity to be educated. Whilst there, interaction will be at the heart of this role. Activities include assisting teachers with lessons, reading stories, preparing meals, playing games and sport. The enthusiasm from the children who are so eager to learn makes me so excited about this venture. I will also be spending time supporting and working with the children unfortunate enough to have to scavenge on the rubbish tips. Whilst I appreciate this trip could be quite emotional for someone so young as me, I also appreciated it will be very rewarding.
The full cost of the trip is £2000 of which I have already raised £1150 through various ventures. I just need help with the final £850.
Since the age of 7 years old, I have raised approximately £15000 for UK based Military charities...usually by climbing mountains. So at the age of 13, I had climbed every single one of the 214 Fells and mountains of the Lake District..my hardest day being 12 mountains, 16 miles when I was 9. I have also done the 3 Peak Challenge at the age of 10 raising money for the British Ex services Wheelchair Sports Association (BEWSA) and I have walked the full 37 miles (in one day) of the Jubilee Way also for BEWSA. At the age of 10, I learned to SCUBA dive, later did my Rescue Diver course which qualified and allowed me to assist in the water with Millennium Dive which is a charity for ex service men and women with disabilities. You have probably realised already that I am quite adventurous, so in April 2018 I will be walking the 100 miles of the South Downs Way for sponsorship in the hope I can raise the final £850. I am reaching out to you all hoping you can financially support me on this incredible experience to Kenya
Thank you in advance
Jack Harrington
