Story
Dear Friends,
Ethiopia faces one of the worst humanitarian crises in the world. Bordering the war-torn countries of South Sudan, Somalia and Eritrea, Ethiopia has become Africa’s largest refugee-hosting country, providing refuge for hundreds of thousands of people fleeing civil war, ethnic conflict and famine. As the humanitarian situation worsens, many refugees are walking for weeks to reach safety and aid.
The Gambella region has the largest refugee population with thousands of refugee children, many who are unaccompanied with no parents. These children and youth are desperate to further their education and find opportunities to make a better life for themselves.
Step Up Camps in partnership with the LWF and the Ethiopian Government Administration for Refugees (ARRA), will work with a makeshift primary school in the Gambella settlement to provide children with educational activities, health and hygiene workshops and vocational training. The camp will run from mid August, and will provide an opportunity for children and youth to be in a safe and productive learning environment during the holidays which are a vulnerable time.
We are raising funds that will go towards purchasing much needed educational supplies for the refugee camp and materials and resources for the programme.
Just £25 will enable one child or teenager to join our programme.
Thank you for supporting this project.
