Derek is a fantastic grandad to my two children, and unfortunately has been dealt a really bad hand. He is only 64 and has recently been diagnosed with terminal cancer. He has cancer of the pancreas and the kidney and has been given up to 12 months to live with chemotherapy. He is extremely weak and every day that goes passed, we know its a day closer to losing him. We have recently worked hard to get Derek and his wife moved to central Bedfordshire near his son, myself and his two grand children. We want to be around to look after him, and look after Derek's wife when the unfortunate time comes. They are looking to move into assisted living next week. Like most properties it will need new carpets, blinds, fridge freezer and re decoration. We would also like to replace their bed, to a memory foam mattresses, this can relieve the pressure off Derek's back. Unfortunately the pain in his back is a common symptom from the type of cancer he has.
We as a family help where we can financially, but with our own children to feed is very difficult.
His son is in the military, and i would love to give them opportunites to spend time together, to make memories. Whether its a day at the zoo with the grandchildren, or a little mini break in the UK. Just to be able to make this time special would be amazing!!

Anyone who knows Derek is a very proud man.
They have worked hard for many years, and to think he won't even make it until a pensionable age is heartbreaking. I just think its about time they have a little bit of happiness, they so deserve!!
