Story
With the Christmas season rapidly approaching and we find ourselves looking forward to visiting the German Market in Birmingham, Black Country Museum and similar places, filling our homes with goodies, buying gifts for those that we love, I find myself thinking what it would be like to have nothing. I know that there is a refugee crisis, wars in the Middle East and famine in parts of Africa but, I feel very strongly that charity begins at home & that is why this Christmas I would like to just raise a smile and let the homeless of the Black Country and Birmingham know that they are not forgotten. I would like to give as many of them as possible a Christmas shoe box containing simple things that we all take for granted such as a new clean pair of warm socks, gloves, hats, toiletries and a few little luxuries such as chocolate bars, packet of sweets or a mince pie etc.An envelope containing a pound or two, in order to buy themselves a hot drink or burger.
These people all have a story to tell and it is easy to sit in judgement of them and buy into the media propaganda that they are all earning £600 per day from begging.I would just like to believe that if by a cruel twist of fate that my son, daughter, niece, nephew or someone else that I love should ever find themselves in a similar predicament, there would be someone who would show them a little kindness.
Please give whatever you can to show the homeless of our area that they are not forgotten, and that people do care. I just want to give them, however fleeting, just a small reminder of Christmas.
Thank you

8 years agoA huge thank you to Mark Brown for his generous donation to this fund. Any donation, no matter how small would be really appreciated. The government will not help them, neither will the local councils, so I dearly hope the good folk of the Black Country & Birmingham will spare a "bob or two" to show the homeless & forgotten that some of us actually give a damn!!! We need to remember that the season of "Goodwill to ALL men" is rapidly approaching, so let's ensure that our homeless receive a small taste of what the most of us take for granted.
