What is crowdfunding?
Crowdfunding is the new way to raise money for a personal cause on JustGiving.Read more
There are two causes that are close to my heart. I wanted to help those causes and realised a good way would be to turn my moderate running ability towards my first marathon. I have therefore signed up for the Northumberland Coastal Marathon on 25 February 2017. Any funds raised will be shared equally between the two causes.
One is the The Northern Head and Neck Cancer Fund. It was established in collaboration with Newcastle Upon Tyne NHS Foundation Trust by my good friend, Evelyn Weightman in memory of her husband, Paul.
The aims of the Northern Head and Neck Cancer Fund are to:
aid funding of Head and Neck Cancer Awareness campaigns within the Northern region;
aid the funding of additional equipment and services above and beyond what Newcastle Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust can provide;
improve and enhance the Northern Head and Neck Cancer patient and carer experience;
aid research and education in the field of head and neck cancer in the Northern region.

The other cause I am supporting is Safe Hearts and Kindness (SHAK). SHAK isn’t like any other dog charity. They are different because they help the dogs that really need it the most. Unlike the majority of dog rescues, SHAK isn’t a rehoming centre; instead they offer sanctuary to abused, mistreated and neglected dogs that have suffered so badly at the hands of humans that they need somewhere to start their lives all over again. All their dogs are either strays or destruction cases from vets or pounds.
