    Story

Sadly on 31st March 2018, the world lost a wonderful man Steve Deakin M.B.E.

Steve lived life to the full, never letting his disabilities stop him from taking adventures head on. Steve was always positive in his outlook on life, had a smile on his face, and a funny (or sometimes not so funny) joke or story.

Steve took on many challenges; he swam the English Channel twice with friends from the Transplant family, and he completed the Escape from Alcatraz triathlon as part of a relay team of fellow transplantees.

He was a big part of the transplant community, competing in the British Transplant Games winning numerous medals and he represented his country at the World Transplant Games in Thailand 2007 and Australia 2009.

Steve was the backbone of the Royal Liverpool Transplant Sport Team. He managed the team for 10 years with never ending commitment, enthusiasm and love. During that time the team went from strength to strength, each year winning more medals and attracting more competitors to the team. It was his pride and joy bringing together transplant patients to become one big family who supported each other and had fun together. These are the words of one of the athletes from the team "I only had the pleasure of knowing Steve for 5 years but that was more than enough time to find out what kind of man he is..... The word legend is bandied around too easily these days but in Steve's case it is more than merited. Not only for his tireless commitment to transplant sport but just for being a true gent, an inspiration and a man any one of us should strive to be more like. I often hear 'a smile can light up a room' but Steve's smile could save Blackpool council a fortune on bulbs for the illuminations. There are many things I will remember Steve for .... and I will remember watching him interact with people and witness how absolutely at ease they were with him, he made everyone feel like that and it is a real gift"

Steve was a truly remarkable man and an inspiration to everyone who came into contact with him.

He will be missed by many, many people but his memory will live on in all of the athletes that compete in the British Transplant Games. Steve's family has requested family flowers only, however all donations to be made to Royal Liverpool Transplant Sports Team.

Night, night me love we will all miss you xxx
