    Story

Steven is a wonderful son, brother, nephew, uncle, cousin and friend to many. But where he comes into his best self, an incredibly devoted father and husband to his wife Kayley and five children Teddy, Mason, Hudson and Tullulah.

On Monday 23rd of May, whilst taking part in a parents race at his sons sports days, Steven suffered a Subarachnoid haemorrhage shortly after setting off, he lost control of his body and tumbled fast crashing to the ground with his full body weight landing on his head and toppling over on his neck, subsequently passing out and losing alot of blood. He was rushed to hospital and it was confirmed he had broken his nose, fractured his neck and suffered the haemorrhage.
The consultant mentioned that he is incredibly lucky to be alive as only 5% of people with his injuries survive without being in a coma and 50% die on the spot. As a result, he has been left with severely reduced eye sight/double vision, severe reduced ability to speak, hearing loss, inability to swallow, requiring a feeding tube, numbness, a severe and ongoing headache, cognitive dysfunction and reduced mobility.

He is currently left with a massive amount of swelling to his brain and blood, which until reduced, has no indication of whether Steven will suffer lasting brain damage, as his accident has caused massive damage to his larynx and the left side of his neck which is connected to the 5 vital senses.

He is a fighter and wants desperately to get better, along with his whole family and friend's willing and praying for him to make a full recovery.

Steven was working full time to support his family and make sure they could enjoy a happy life but of course, it seems he has a massive and long road ahead of him to any chance of recovery, or he may never fully recover to his well-abled self in order to provide for his family.

It has also been confirmed that Steven has a fractured skull as well as neck which is again possibly a reason why he is struggling so much. He is still trying to fight through, but he is having massive difficulties every second of the day. Thank you so much to everyone who has donated, our family are eternally grateful and these donations are needed now more than ever with all Steven is facing. The doctor said it could be years before Steven makes any progress if at all.

Steven was also diagnosed yesterday with sixth nerve palsy, a nerve disorder that occurs when the sixth cranial nerve is damaged. The disorder prevents some of the muscles that control eye movement from working properly. People who have sixth nerve palsy cannot turn the eye outwards toward the ear. Other signs and symptoms may include double vision, headaches, hearing loss and pain around the eye. It is not yet known if anything can be done to improve this disorder for Steven.

It is now known Steven does not have any swelling left on his brain and doctors were hopeful this may be what was causing his injuries. However, it is more likely to do with his head and neck trauma following his crash to the ground. This complicates things more slightly as it is not known if the difficulties he is facing with his health will now remain permanent, regress or improve. We are trying to remain hopeful that he will be able to make progress in his impairments of sight, speech, hearing, mobility, swallowing and so on.
