    Story

With over 40 members, including 23 children aged 8-16 representing 13 local schools, the choir of St John's, Devizes is establishing itself as one of the leading Parish Choirs in the country. In addition to their weekly performance of quality music every Sunday morning during term time, they have recently made two recordings, as well as undertaking regular trips to lead services in some of Britain's most glorious buildings. The cathedrals of Chichester, Coventry, Gloucester, Salisbury, St Paul's, Truro, Wells and Winchester have all been visited within the past four years.

Back in September 2017, thanks to a partnership that has been gaining momentum for the past few years, the choir was both shocked and excited to receive an invitation to tour Latvia this August, including Evensong at St John the Baptist Church, Cesis, and a concert in Riga Cathedral.

In order for the trip to become a reality, however, some serious fundraising will need to take place over the coming months, as the cost per person will be too large to expect our families to be prepared to pay outright. The total cost of the trip is estimated at £30,000, around £2,000 of which we hope to raise through this crowdfunding page.

Thank you to all our supporters who helped us raise money for our tour to Latvia. The choir returned on Saturday 1st September after a highly successful five-day trip. The performances were well received by the priests and local communities of Cesis and Riga, and the whole tour surpassed all expectations and will leave indelible marks on all those - particularly the children - who had the privilege of representing the Diocese of Salisbury in this venture. News, photos and videos from the trip can be viewed on our Twitter page @SJBDevizesChoir.

Thank you all once again for the support which surrounded our most recent event and congratulations to the choir on their fantastic entertainment at the end of January! A huge crowd turned out to support the youngsters’ performances, which concluded with the town’s top three Christmas carols being revealed and sung by the full choir. After lunch, the organ recitalist even managed to play most of his notes in the right order! The day raised in the region of £1150 for the tour fund. Onwards and upwards towards our remaining hat-trick of events!

Thank you to everyone who has supported us since we started this venture back in October. The total amount raised through various channels has just reached £6000 thanks to the generosity of so many people. The choir has enjoyed Carol Singing to hundreds of people at this season of good will and we will be entertaining crowds again tomorrow. A great start but still plenty of work to do in the New Year! A happy and healthy Christmas to everyone!
