Weʼve raised £2,355 to purchase a van. This will allow us to source stone more cheaply, gain additional work and take our apprentices on educational visits.

    What is crowdfunding?

Crowdfunding is a new type of fundraising where you can raise funds for your own personal cause, even if you're not a registered charity.

The page owner is responsible for the distribution of funds raised.

    Story

Van Appeal - Give us the tools and we'll carve out our own future

The Guild of St Stephen & St George are training a new generation to become stonemasons. We don't receive any external funding and will only survive through our own enterprise. Lots of people are giving their time and skills freely in order to help pass on the craft skills and culture which has existed continuously for nearly 1,000 years. The purchase of a van would enable us to radically cut the cost of sourcing stone; it would allow us to take on more work in order to finance our apprentices' journey. Finally, we would be able to take our apprentices on educational site visits.

Apologies for not being able to offer more but hopefully every little helps. I shall give a shout out to fellow students and academics and hopefully they will jump on board too. Best, Teresa

I am the Clerk of the stonemasons' Guild of St Stephen & St George. Over the next decade we will be training forty young people on seven-year apprenticeships, as well as forty mates (labourers) to work in teams alongside them.
