Story
Sadly, Mike Lacy died recently in St Peter's Avenue in Cleethorpes. He may have survived had a defibrillator been close by. Vince McDonagh, a reporter at the nearby Cleethorpes Chronicle, was luckier. He survived a cardiac arrest on Wednesday, November 30th, because of the actions of colleagues and a fast response from East Midlands Ambulance Service. A paramedic, with a defibrillator, was on the scene within a minute.
In the event of a cardiac arrest, the only definitive treatment is a shock delivered by a defibrillator. The chances of survival deteriorates by 10% for every minute that passes without one.
The nearest defibrillators to Cleethorpes' main shopping street are at the first aid station and leisure centre. Both are too far away. We would ask family, friends, colleagues, local businesses and the wider community to support this fund-raising initiative, being helped by Mike's partner Annie with support from the Chronicle and The Rotary Club of Cleethorpes. Please help. Thank you.
