Some men buy a sports car... or run off with a younger woman when they hit their mid-life crisis. I am thankful my husband, Rae Gibb, has decided to bike the 'West Highland Way' ...

Perhaps not much of a challenge, I hear... but for Rae who has only cycled round the village, this is REALLY momentous. And to top things off, he's persuaded his teenage son Joshua to leave his playstation for three days to join him!

They will cycle 97 miles up and down mountains from Fort William to Glasgow - at times having to carry their bikes over tough terrain. Not an easy task for any mountain biker - much less for Rae and Josh who have had to beg, borrow and buy all the gear for what is forecast to be wintry and windy conditions.

But Rae wanted a challenge and wanted to give something back to his son's rugby club. Joshua had intensive hip surgery as a youngster and was unable to walk for 2 years, having to re-learn at the age of 6. Running since has never been easy, but Strathendrick Rugby Club (entirely run voluntarily by parents and friends) welcomed him as it does all kids regardless - instilling motivation and confidence, camaraderie and discipline, while having fun.
