    Story

On 30th September 2017, my husband of 47 happy years died from Cardiac Amyloidosis AL at the age of 72. This is a very rare blood disease that is not well known. My husband complained of shortness of breath and swelling in his legs. Initially he was diagnosed with heart failure and treated as such. After several more visits, appointments with a heart consultant and various scans, he was diagnosed with suspected cardiac amyloidosis. Our GP only remembered a little about it after it was diagnosed and I suspect there are many more GPs who have never heard of the disease.. By then it was too late to start the chemotherapy that might have saved him and he died in my arms. The UCL and the Royal Free Hospital are the only places in the UK where research is being carried out in the early diagnosis and treatment of this cruel disease. I am trying to raise a substantial amount of money to donate to the hospital for equipment to aid research and diagnosis. Please help me to reach my target.

I almost forgot to say I had also received cheques for over £300 to be paid directly to the Amyloidosis Research Fund. I have been looking for the way of addind funds raised offline but I can't find it.

I have been overwhelmed by the support given for this cause by friends of Stuart and also Karen. I set the takget high in the hope of at least reaching £500 but I am now almost at the £2000 mark. I'm sure this will make a difference.

Such sad news. I will always remember Stuart for his great kindness in riding to St Tropez with my partner John for his last great motorcycle trip before he died (2005).
