Meet Abi. She's an incredible 28-year-old, who's fighting a tough battle with Hodgkin's lymphoma. As well as singing, she writes music, she writes blogs, but most importantly - she inspires. Find out how she used JustGiving Crowdfunding to support herself through this hard time, continue to sing and share her story.
Hey Abi! Can you tell us a bit about yourself?
My name is Abi Flynn. I'm 28 and I'm a professional singer. About two years ago, I was diagnosed with Hodgkin's lymphoma, a blood cancer which is common in young people.
I've been raising money on JustGiving to improve my health and keep me going whilst I have treatment and chemotherapy.
How did it feel to get your first donation?
It was amazing! I just felt as though all my worries about asking for money had gone. After that I couldn't stop checking the page!
What tips do you have to share?
Use updates to let your supporters know how you’re getting on. Using updates has been really helpful for me as my situation health-wise has been changing constantly and I’ve felt it to be important.
What has the money you've raised so far allowed you to do?
The first thing I did when I'd raised £1000 was book on to a health detoxing retreat - I'd just had a lot of chemotherapy and was in a very bad way.
I'm currently writing more music now than I ever have, so I'm also working on a big music project. I've recorded an album centred around transformation through adversity and I'm looking forward to beginning a career in helping other through my music.
And finally, what advice do you have for writing a good story on your page?
When I was setting up my page, I was quite nervous as to what to write. But when I started writing it actually all poured out. The fact that I could add video made it so much better for me, so post a video if you can.
