    Story

Recently I was listening to my favourite radio station and the presenter was speaking to Matthew. I felt compelled to call the radio to offer my help to Matthew to turn his life around and at the same time show him that there are good people who do care. Our donations will make a huge difference.

    Matthew's story …
When you fall out of society to rock bottom and bounce along the bottom, the descent of your mental health deterioration continues. Though most of your day is focused on keeping warm, getting something to eat and feeling safe, you have a lot of time to think, how on earth did I get here?
My birth mother was unable to look after me and I was put into care then adopted at the age of 2. My adoptive father was very distant and violent, had many affairs and left when i was 12. Luckily my mum was amazing and as supportive as she could be. Both died when I was in my 20s. My ambitions were simple, to have a family, friends and a job that I loved. I went to university and started a 20-year career in advertising as a designer. I had 3 serious relationships that all ended in my partners having affairs, including the mother of my child who is now 13. My mental health deteriorated. I was asked to resign on medical grounds. I made poor decisions, didn't ask for help which lead to being evicted nearly 3 years ago. The more I have fallen, with a few exceptions, friends and family have stopped contact. The loneliness becomes a physical pain, a lack of empathy and being blamed for your own demise, leads to isolating yourself further.
When you become invisible, not only do people not see you; you cannot see further than your current circumstances. Unless you can pay for access to decent mental health care, the wait is too long on the NHS. I would love to do a postgraduate degree, but there are days I cannot afford to eat. I would love to start a social enterprise to help others in my situation using my design skills. I am trying to turn my life around.
