Story
Only 18 months after buying a house in "walk-in" condition our friends Sue and Mark are facing bills of £140,000+ to treat widespread dry rot that was not revealed in the house details, questionnaire or reports. Nobody is accepting any responsibility for this dreadful situation. Sue and Mark cannot afford these bills and our team is determined to make a difference. Please help.
Sue and Mark met at Butlins straight after college and have spent the last 40 years working in theatre and drama. This might seem like exciting and glamorous work from the outside but in reality the work is uncertain and not well paid. Treating the dry rot has involved much of the house being stripped back to bare walls and beams and there is still a lot to do before the house can be properly lived in again. Having spent everything they had on buying the house they have had to take on loans to pay bills so far. Work has to be completed before Sue and Mark can release equity but this will not meet all the costs of the loans and upcoming bills.
Sue and Mark are lovely people, warm, compassionate with a bit of theatre about them; they know all the words of every stage musical you could think of. This awful, frightening situation seems insurmountable to them. They need help. Our target of £50,000 is large but this is the enormous shortfall Sue and Mark are facing. Every penny donated will go to reducing this amount and anything you can give will make a difference. Thank you.
There are more photos and details of Sue and Mark's dreadful situation in an article in the Dumfries & Galloway Standard of 31.1.20. Read this on line at:
