Story
I will be living in a rural Fijian village on the island of Kadavu; teaching English, assisting Fijian teachers, leading kindergarten programmes, organising one to one lessons for children, leading extracurricular activities, youth clubs and sports coaching.
Primary and secondary schools in Fiji are understaffed and severely lacking in basic materials. 75% of children live below the poverty line which forces many to drop out of school early. Children are often forced into a future of limited education, opportunity or access of jobs and training. Over one third of Fijis population lives in poverty, with many children being denied basic support in life and many families struggle to meet their daily needs. Only 50% of children have access to adequate sanitation and fresh water.
The Think Pacific charity was founded by two students who wanted to make a greater impact by creating a small and more ethical social enterprise. Think Pacific has a significant impact in Fiji and is a well-respected NGO. They offer year-round support to ensure all projects are sustainable. This includes the purchase of educational resources and sports equipment for remote schools, funding kindergarten projects, youth outreach schemes, health awareness, medical initiatives and sports development. Think pacific also provides crucial funding for scholarships, training and work experience placements for unemployed youths in Fiji and funds local infrastructure projects such as building classrooms and improving water and sanitation in rural communities
Think Pacific has helped Fijian communities in many different ways, including; supporting over 20,000 children, a 15% increase in school attendance, 40% increase in literacy and 40% + teachers trained annually. Think pacific have also funded 48 building projects across 5 islands, including building 11 health clinics
I will be doing several things to fundraise money over the next six months, and any donations would be greatly appreciated!xx

After visiting Fiji for 3 weeks last year, falling in love with the beautiful country and the unbelievably friendly people and visiting several villages and schools I have decided to go back in September 2017 to volunteer for two months with Think Pacific, teaching English.
