Story
Sunflower Early Years playgroup is based in Donacavey Church of Ireland Hall in Fintona, Co Tyrone, Northern Ireland. It's a cross community playgroup which has been running in Fintona for over 30years, providing an inclusive and integrated environment for children aged 2years and 10months onwards. This community facility is at threat of closure due to lack of funding which has stemmed from budget cuts filtered down from the rudderless Department of Education in the Northern Ireland Executive.
Our current group of children include families who travel from up to 15miles away to attend our trusted playgroup. We are the first step on the ladder to education for these children and through us they develop social, emotional, physical skills as well as making new friends. It is often the first point of call to getting help if a child has any development problems and if we close those children children might not get help for at least another year.
Our playgroup will not be able to operate after this autumn (2017) if further funding is not secured. The playgroup relies heavily on grant funding and the parents and staff have worked tirelessly to carry out further fundraising activities in the local area in recent months. With Fintona being one of the largest towns outside of Omagh, and being classed as a disadvantaged area, it would be a devastating loss to so many families if this playgroup were to close its doors. There are no other playgroups in the area catering for children on an integrated, cross-community basis.
We, the parents and staff, are urging you to donate what you can to ensure that future children in the area can use this amazing facility with its dedicated staff for many years to come.
The closure would result in the loss of 3 jobs and the loss of over 20 places for children in this first crucial step in their education.
We would be grateful for ANY help, no matter how small your donation.
Thank you so much for your donation!
