The school called Sumedha, was a cause very dear to my father’s heart. The name of this school is made up in part from my father’s name and means “wise or intelligent”.

It currently has 110 students and classes range from 1st to 10th standard (ages 5 to 16)

Despite the fact that many of these students have come from difficult backgrounds, ten of the students have achieved top 10 state rankings in maths and languages, which is a credit to both the students and the school.

A number of students require financial assistance. We would like to focus on providing sponsorship to female students from class 8 (age 13) and upwards, who are frequently withdrawn from school due to a lack of funds, as educating male members of the family is often seen as more of a priority.

We also are looking at expanding the amenities which are currently very basic, to help improve the attendance of female students. Currently there is one female restroom between all of the female students which can make things very difficult on a day to day basis.

We are grateful for any donations received as these will go to a very good cause and support those less fortunate, with a long-term view to education releasing them from the cycle of poverty. In the long term we hope this will help the students be in a better position to also assist their families, with their difficult circumstances, and to live a better quality of life.
