The Global Educational Trust have just completed building an orphanage with an education centre in Gambia. It will educate children, half will be resident at the centre/orphanage and the remainder live in the nearby village.

The Gambia is a small West African country, bounded by Senegal, with a narrow Atlantic coastline. The population of street children is very high in Gambia, particularly in border towns, 60% of them are from neighbouring countries. Only approximately 28% of children among the 20% of the poorest and only 42% among the 20% of the richest attend school. Girls are more severely affected, particularly in rural areas.

This new education centre will provide equal opportunities for girls, and in addition to learning, all children will have a safe place to stay and their meals provided. It is truly life changing for these youngsters, and in turn their families and the wider community.

The new building is complete, but what is really needed now is a source of power for lighting, cooking and water heating etc. This is a dream that goes beyond the means of the good local people that run the school, it would therefore be amazing if we could give them some solar panels. The sunshine is in abundance in The Gambia, and solar panels will be very cost efficient once set up, if we can raise £6000 then we can give the school solar panels and cover the costs of installing them, this will enhance the lives of these children even more.

If we are fortunate to raise additional funds then we will purchase school bags, pens, paper and books etc
