Thank you for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page in support of my mum Sonia.

Mum was first diagnosed in August 2013 with the late stages of Ovarian Cancer. The cancerous mass in her abdomen - which was the size of a rugby ball- was removed along with a full hysterectomy. However the cancer was not contained within the tumour and therefore she had to undergo fortnightly chemotherapy. Unfortunately the chemotherapy was halted due to a heart-attack as a result of the drugs, at which point she had to have the medicines reduced to help her finish the treatment. During this time, Mum lost all of her hair, which she found very difficult and her medical state really tested her strength. She valiantly fought and fought and in March 2014, was given the lovely words "You are in remission"

18 months later in July 2015, We were informed the cancer had returned, this time to the lymphatic system and, in December 2016, she was back on the monthly treatments of chemotherapy. Again, the same events happened and in February 2017, the chemotherapy was halted due to another severe heart attack and again the medicine had to be adjusted for her.

The drugs the NHS were providing were not helping or working with her body. The cancer was spreading and growing to a point where weekly treatment was now needed. For the second time, coping with the hair loss (when it finally started to grow back) and weekly care was tough, yet she was determined to try and keep going.

The worst news was still to come when in August 2017 the doctors told her that her treatment had failed and she was given a "6 months" life expectancy. Refusing to give up and without any support from the NHS , as a family we have been looking into alternative treatments in the UK and abroad.

We have found a clinic in Germany where she has the opportunity for a blood cleansing regime and medical care to stop the cancer growth, give her a better quality of life and offer her more time. The treatment is intensive, physically exhausting and time consuming but, being the woman she is, she is willing to take it on and continue to fight this horrible disease .

This is where our fundraising page has come in and the hope that there may be others who can help us. These treatments as you can imagine are expensive. The current chemotheraphy treatments that the NHS offer have not worked, yet have had a terrible effect on Mum's body, but NOT her spirit.
