Story
Welcome to the SURFC Old Boys National Three Peaks Challenge fundraising page - raising funds for Connor’s Journey.
Our Stirling University RFC team-mate and friend, Connor Hughes, suffered a catastrophic spinal cord injury whilst playing rugby in September 2014. He dislocated his fifth and sixth vertebrae in his neck and became paralysed from the shoulders down. Connor was playing in an away match for Stirling University RFC 1st XV in a pre-season friendly.
Since this life-changing injury, Connor has made amazing progress, visiting Project Walk, USA in 2014 and Bangkok, Thailand in 2015, where he was fitted with 16 electronic implants along his spine: all of which have contributed to Connor’s journey towards recovery. However funding is essential for Connor's continued development and recovery.
Consequently a group of Connor’s friends will be undertaking the National Three Peaks Challenge to raise funds for Connor and also to increase awareness of spinal cord injuries throughout sport.
On 8 September 2018, Russell Mackay, Tom Ritchie, Jamie Laughlin, Jamie Livingston and Tom Ross will be attempting to walk up Ben Nevis (Scotland), Scafell Pike (England) and Snowdon (Wales) within 24 hours.
It would be greatly appreciated if you could donate towards our target of £2,500 which will be going towards Connor’s Journey. More information regarding the campaign, Connor’s Journey can be found on the website: http://www.connorsjourney.com/about.htm
Cheers,
Jamie, Russell, Jimmy, Tom and Tom
