Story

My name is Suzanne and I have decided to set myself a series of challenges. I hope to complete as many as I can in my 50th birthday year between May 2018 to May 2019. If I am honest I am struggling to adjust to the thought of being as old as half a century! My confidence has been affected at times and I hope the next year will leave me full of amazing memories and a sense of pride in what I have achieved.

The challenges will include a triathlon, half-marathons, 10ks, park runs, cycle events, an outdoor swim, mountain climbs and a full marathon if my body allows. I also plan to take myself way out of comfort zone with some activities I have never taken part in before. Watch this space..

Please see updates for photos and info about events already completed :-)

I am raising money for the "Matthew Nicholls Foundation" which has been set up by Matthew’s parents Rachel and Rob. Rachel is a friend with whom I trained for three years to become an Occupational Therapist at Salford University between 1999 and 2002.

The Matthew Nicholls Foundation has been set up by Matt’s parents, Rachel and Rob after Matt, aged 24, completely unexpectedly took his own life in July 2017. As a naturally gifted musician Matthew had the very best opportunities that enabled him to excel. The reality though for many children is wildly different. Even if they are inherently gifted, this talent can easily go to waste if it is not identified and supported during those crucial early years. With educational challenges, we are in real danger of losing a generation of musicians. The Matthew Nicholls Foundation has been established to enable young people to develop their musical abilities. The Foundation believes that all young people should have the opportunity to foster musical understanding and skills for the benefit of themselves and the wider community. In particular the Foundation aims to support young people who have the motivation to further their skills but have significant financial and/or social difficulties that are a barrier to the further development of their musical abilities. We are working in collaboration with local services and professional music educationalists to ensure that young people with life challenges and musical potential benefit from money raised.

Some words from Rachel and Rob

Matthew took all opportunities offered to him to develop his musical talent. We believe that all young people should have the opportunity to engage in the production of music for self-development and for the pleasure of the wider community. The Matthew Nicholls Foundation is working with music services to provide financial support for young people to develop musical skills, especially those with financial and social barriers" By making a donation you will be giving Suzanne the motivation and encouragement to train hard over the next few months to achieve all the challenges which lie ahead in the next 12 months. You will also be supporting Rachel and Rob in keeping Matt's name alive through helping others. Thank you in advance for your kind generosity xxxx

Smashed the Manchester Half Marathon 14/10/2018. Loved this event. 14,000 people running through the streets of Manchester where I grew up. Lots of memories. Time of 2 hours 18 mins. Really chuffed as no running training. Tough sessions with Rammy Bootcamp definitely got me through xx

Bury Clarion Charity 60 mile Nightride 22/09/18. We set off at 9.30pm and rode back to the start point at 3.30am. Six exhilarating and often painful hours on the road dodging pot holes in the dark riding through rural areas and the town centre with a group of 70 inspiring women. Brilliant event and we felt like we were in a Peloton with a motorbike, support vehicles and riders. Really chuffed as I was only one of four riders to complete the 60 mile circuit with little training. Loved it x
