Weʼve raised £2,162 to help my sister's family through a devastating time in their lives ....

Funded on Thursday, 23rd August 2018

    What is crowdfunding?

Crowdfunding is a new type of fundraising where you can raise funds for your own personal cause, even if you're not a registered nonprofit.

The page owner is responsible for the distribution of funds raised.

My sister’s world has just been turned upside down....

A while ago, my brother in law, John, complained of smelling odd smells and tasting odd tastes. He then travelled to work one day, had a flat tyre, changed it and then just ‘lost’ 45 minutes of time. He went to the doctors and they sent him for some tests. John then had to do some travelling for work to China. This is when he really started to feel unwell....he felt dizzy, uneasy on his feet and had horrendous headaches. He flew back early.... The doctors then sent him for an MRI and that’s when they discovered a very large tumour on his brain..... The consultants have now told him it's an aggressive form of cancer and is incurable.

    This is devastating.....

My sister, very bravely and with the help of the Macmillan website, told the children that their dad had Cancer and that the doctors were going to help him...This was probably the saddest thing she's ever done....

On Friday the 13th (John saw this as a positive) it was the day of the operation. We drove up to Bristol Southmead hospital at 5am...It was the hardest drive of our lives... My sister said goodbye, to a very smiley and positive John at 9am. The time that day seemed to slow down...each minute felt like a hour. After 9 hours in surgery, John was finally in Intensive Care. When we got there, he even managed to smile...

We noticed that John's left side unfortunately wasn't moving and we later found out that he had indeed had a Stroke. Another devastating blow! John undergoes daily Physiotherapy. He remained so strong and positive and felt sure that one day life would go back to the way it was...only, more positive, more grateful and living every day feeling blessed. And to one day help others in his position. My sister has also been strong, faced many fears and been incredibly brave. She made the journey to Bristol from Yeovil every day whilst organising and caring for the children. She also managed to fit in a few hairdressing clients! Our family have come together and formed a 'safety blanket' around them, helping in any way we can.

A meeting was held on the 19th with the consultant that performed the operation. He told us some very worrying news... If John's left side didn't start to get feeling back, then they couldn't go forward with any further treatment ie the Chemo and Radiotherapy and there were also two inoperable tumours that will continue to grow at a fast rate.... This is the day my sister broke down.....

Also, on the 19th John, had his clips out and thankfully got transferred nearer to home.

    Still smiling and being brave........

Now that John is in Yeovil Hospital, the children can see him everyday. We can all pop in and spend time with him...bring him his favourite things, favourite food and give him lots of cuddles.

My sister and John have 3 children under the age of 12. John also has 3 sons from a previous relationship. Their home has been a busy, happy, full of life home. Financially they have always got by, but now....... I just don’t know how my sister's family will manage... how she will be able to keep up with all the bills possibly without John's income. I just want my sister and John to be able to focus on the operation and rehabilitation instead of worrying about money. My husband, also John's very close friend, has done lots of research and he has found something that will help possibly slow down the growth of the tumours. Its made in Japan and is £320...... this may give him more time for his left side to reengage with his brain, then he can have his Chemo and Radiotherapy....and give him a chance. We have to try everything!

If anyone can help, just even a little, it would help her and John so very much. Our whole family has come together and will do all that we can but we can’t do it all.

    Thank you for reading.

Me and my big sis when times were easier.......

Sorry I haven’t updated everyone for a while. John didn’t go forward with the Chemo or radiotherapy, it would have been just too much for him. He did manage to go home for a couple of weeks but unfortunately had a fall and things seemed to deteriorate from there. Currently we are in the wonderful St Margarets Hospice. John hasn’t really been awake for the past couple of days. We have had the odd wave, thumbs up, the odd pout of lips and a few little smiles. His family are around him and he is comfortable. This is a such heartbreaking time.....

Tomorrow John starts his Chemo and Radiotherapy treatment. He’s still in the wonderful hands of South Petherton Hospital and will be transported daily for the next three weeks to Bristol where he will be given his treatment. Yvonne will be going with him every day. I think John is feeling scared of the unknown. People can react differently to the treatment. We just hope and pray that it’s not too harsh on John. He is still being so amazing and so positive! Yvonne has found a strength I don’t think she knew she had! I’m very proud of my big sis!
