    Story

Many girls in rural Malawi miss school during their period as they do not have sanitary products. A group of young tailors have learnt how to make reusable menstrual hygiene kits for the girls in their community. Luwatala is a village in Malawi partnered with Stow-Heriot in Scottish Borders http://luwatala.link/ . The parish has a faith link with Stow-Heriot Church and a business enterprise link with Lauderdale Rotary. A gift made here is turned into materials to make kits locally in Luwatala. This fund also aims to encourage a small business enterprise for young people using their tailoring skills locally.

If you would like to give any donation it will help this project. To sponsor a tailor for £10 make the donation to the Tailors for Dignity Project on this site and receive a Java Print notebook we have covered in fabric from Malawi here. You will also receive a notecard with a greeting - translated from one of the tailors.

We would like to thank Lauderdale Rotary Club for buying two secondhand sewing machines for the young Luwatala tailors - so they can set up a small business. The tailors have earned the sewing machines by making 35 kits for school girls (who will receive the kits for free; cost of materials donated from this JustGiving site). The foot treadle machines will help the tailors build a small enterprise and local income.

The tailors at Luwatala receiving the latest sponsorship money from this site. Hope it will encourage them in their enterprise where they are currently making school uniforms. The tailors are using sewing machines donated by Lauderdale Rotary to build a small business - after their earlier work to make menstrual hygiene kits for girls in education.

The young tailors in Malawi are starting a small enterprise to make school uniforms for the local secondary school. There is a sponsorship scheme to help them get started - buying materials. Any donation can be a gift for someone you know in the UK too; we will send a note book covered in Java print and a gift card out in your name. Below is a picture of four of the tailors outside the home belonging to Alice. All of the tailors were sponsored by their local church to gain training so they bring an income to Luwatala and support families.
