Weʼre raising £1,000 to Help fund a community dance project in Hull led by Tamar & Jo, culminating in a performance at a public event
Crowdfunding is a new type of fundraising where you can raise funds for your own personal cause, even if you're not a registered nonprofit.
The page owner is responsible for the distribution of funds raised.
Tamar & Jo are a Hull-based contemporary dance company who have been working together since early 2018, creating performance work and delivering classes and projects with members of Hull's communities and beyond. Last year, we created a 30 minute piece for Hull's Freedom Festival with a group of 15 people ranging in age from 18-60, from a mix of cultural backgrounds, with and without physical disabilities and from budding professionals to those who had never danced before. The project itself had an impact on the lives of all involved, and the outcome was a moving, beautiful and highly impressive dance performance. We have seen lives transformed through Hull's recent spurge in participatory dance activities, including our weekly Adult Contemporary class - strong friendships formed, confidence built, and improvements to physical and mental health, and are determined to continue the momentum that began with Hull City of Culture 2017.
We now wish to deliver our second community performance project in March 2020, for people aged 16+. We will again aim to work with as diverse a group as possible, this time working over a shorter, more intense period, but providing an enriching, creative experience that holds each participant central to the creative process. It will be part of a wider project that Tamar & Jo will deliver over a three-month period, and will culminate in a performance event made up of short pieces by Tamar & Jo and invited guests, including the work created on the community project as well as professional companies from outside of Hull.
We rely largely on funding from Arts Council England and Hull City Council, both which are difficult to obtain, so we want to raise as much match funding as possible to improve our chances of being successful. There will be free places on the project reserved for those who would struggle to pay, though we will ask for a donation of £30-£50 from participants who are able to offer a contribution. This will help to cover fees for planning and delivery of the two-day project as well as room hire and other costs. We will also offer rewards for other contributions:
£5 - a free contemporary dance class / £10 - entry to the performance event in March / £15 both of the aforementioned / £20 - 2 event tickets / £30-£50 - a place on the 2-day community dance project with a performance at the March event. All contributors will get a personal thank you on our social media - remember to add your name to your donation!
