Story
In February Chris was riding at Stanmer Park and had a fall from his bike. As a result he is has been left paraplegic and will now be reliant on wheelchairs for mobility. He's currently at a specialist spinal injury rehabilitation unit in Stanmore.
We would like Chris to have the best wheelchair he can get to help him with this challenging transition.
So a group of his friends are raising money through various rides and other activities. We've called out fundraising group Team Cortado - Chris' favourite coffee.
We'll put details of them up as they occur but so far we have a day trip to France from Newhaven with a target to ride 150 miles, a South Downs Way in a day ride and we've also opened a t-shirt shop (at https://teamcortado.teemill.com/). We'll be doing something around our local bike race The Brighton Big Dog - held at Stanmer Park each summer - as well.
Chris has a family and is self employed, we want to do all we can to help him with the practical things in his life so he can concentrate on his rehabilitation and learning to live with his injury.

4 years agoChris recently took delivery of a Batek Electric wheelchair. This gives him independence around the hilly streets of Brighton, the ability to travel on or off road and a range of 50km. Thank you again to everyone who contributed to our fundraising and have helped us reach the goal that allowed Chris to have the 'chair of his choice.

5 years agoIt wasn’t all smiles by the end but huge sense of achievement as most of us had never ridden the South Downs Way before and 100 miles off road with 11000ft of climbing was a big challenge physically and mentally. Bikes ranged from a 170mm travel full suspension to a rigid hard tail, finish times from 12 to 18 hours. Was a windy day but we mostly avoided rain and while a 40mph tail wind is useful it’s not great when it’s a side wind on a fast descent or a headwind on a climb. So, 1400 miles ridden by #teamcortado in a day for Chris.

5 years agoOn the 18th of May a group of us took a ferry to Dieppe and did a 100 mile road ride. This coming Saturday 17 of us will set off from Winchester to ride the off road 100 mile South Downs Way in a day. Thank you to everyone who has contributed to our fundraising efforts for Chris - the support has been overwhelming and humbling.

I've ridden with Chris for a few years - he's a lovely bloke and I want to do all I can to help him live with his injury. I regularly ride with Brighton MTB, sit on the Brighton Local Access Forum and have a love of the countryside.
