Story
In conjunction with the Stoke-on-Trent City Council and Stoke-on-Trent College, Hanley Team 391 have been assigned a group project to renovate a unused shop on Church Street into a community living area to help with Adult Social Care.
At the moment, we are looking to help Adults and the Elderly come together in the community in a setting that promotes both the history and culture of Stoke as a city. We are looking to re-haul the shop into a comfortable area for conversations over a nice book or cup of coffee while also trying to uplift the lives of those who will use our service. We're also looking at turning the place into a space to learn new skills and allow for personal development and creating bonds with people you would not ordinarily meet on a day-to-day basis.
At the moment, we have no funds whatsoever and there is a lot of work to do:
1) First, we have to clean the entire area, including a floor that has become as sticky as superglue. The plumbing situation too also needs to be addressed.
2) We need to not only source furniture, but also create enough room to seat around 10-12 people at a time and do so while creating an enticing space that feels like home away from home.
3) General repairs, such as the filling of holes the walls and a cracked door-frame (both of which we need to find materials to help towards) and a re-coat cosmetically are all needed to transform the old shop into a new space full of life and character.
4) Finally, we are also looking to source items from the local area, including any pottery made within Stoke as a whole as a way to show the history and hard-work and determination that went into making Stoke a thriving city.
We're hoping that you can donate any amount of money, just as much as you can afford too. We're looking to finish our work in two weeks and allow the space to be utilised as soon as the work is done (not to mention allow all members of the public to utilise the space). This is an opportunity to help highlight the strong sense of community in Stoke, and allow us to develop as a city in the modern era. With your help, we hope to do the best work we can and thank you for any donations you wish to provide.
Any size cash donation will go a long way and once again, thank you in advance for supporting us.
