Story
On May 25th 1967, Tommy Gemmell thundered an audacious shot from outside the box to equalise for Celtic against Inter Milan in the European Cup final in Lisbon. Tommy's goal was the beginning of a turnaround that saw the Hoops go on and win the cup completing a glorious season.
Twenty-one years ago, the bus was set up with the Lisbon Lion as its patron and namesake. Fifty years on from his triumph in Lisbon, it was with enormous sadness that we lost Tommy last week, who'd found an adopted home for himself in Dunblane. Tommy scored one of the most pivotal goals in Celtic history and scored in another European final in 1970. He will never be forgotten and it is through this flag that we would like to pay tribute to the great man.
The flag has been expertly designed and paid for and now, we ask for donations to help reduce the cost of this on the committee - that do a terrific job of running the club in his name.
It is the purpose of this flag to have Tommy's image hanging from the upper tier in Celtic Park for years to come and to prove that he will never be forgotten for his contribution to our football clubs and, for those of us that knew him, as people.
There is a light and it never goes out.
