Story
From a young age, Benjamin had an interest in helping people who are in ‘need’. From the age of 8 he joined St John Ambulance as a cadet in Southam, Warwickshire, where he lived with his parents until age 11 and where he attended Primary School in Long Itchington. The family moved to West Sussex in 2006, when he joined again as a Bognor Regis cadet, where he stayed until he reached the age of 18, achieving the Grand Priors Award, the highest award achievable as a cadet. He moved from St John Cadets to join the Adults to further his training. However due to the setting up of the Blues Busters, he has now given this up.
Benjamin’s aim in life was to become a paramedic. This fired his devotion to St. John and his wish to help others was the driving factor. With time, however, it became clear, that a career in the ambulance service was sadly not going to be possible, as with a condition he was born with made the heavy lifting, the fast and exacting action requirements and stressful environment of the job spec not a realistic career choice for him.
Benjamin attended Slindon College from 2006 - 2014, a school near Arundel, West Sussex where he spent all his secondary school years, doing GCSE’s and then a further two years in their 6th Form to complete a BTEC-study programme. Slindon College was a specially chosen school, due to its small size and its experience and expertise with children who are experiencing special educational needs. Whilst at Slindon, Benjamin succeeded in obtaining good GCSE’s in a few subjects, however the main subjects - English and Maths - Maths being the area of his most severe problems, could not be obtained, neither during his GCSE-years, nor in the following two BTEC-years and he is now working on both English and Maths at Chichester College. During the BTEC period, he succeeded in obtaining a BTEC Level 2 Certificate in Applied Science, a BTEC Level 2 Art and Design and a BTEC Level 2 Award in Counselling Skills, amongst other things.
