    Story

I was 16 years old when i set fire to my t-shirt using a lighter, I didn't know I was suffering from depression, I was blocking out my problems instead of facing them and because I found it difficult to express my emotions and feelings I started to drink alcohol everyday. A Number of events that happened in my life happened at high school, inside and outside of school I started to lose trust in who to speak to and ask for help, the reason why I couldn't ask for help is because I seemed to end up being in trouble and I had to be put my feeling to one side and could not get the help I needed. The day I found out my auntie past away was the day I started to drink alcohol more and more, up until the night that I set myself on fire, I couldn't block out my thoughts and alcohol started to get along side the thoughts. I cut my arms with broken glass and moments later I set myself on fire. I was taken to Selly Oak hospital A&E and was told my chance of survival was 50/50 I remember signing paper and wheeled into theatre a lady was holding my hand when I was drifting to sleep.

I woke up earlier then expected, I remember waking up in intensive care and I did feel scared I thought the person looking after me was trying to kill me for some reason, I wouldn't let them inject anything because I did not want to go back to sleep.

I was then transferred onto the regional burns unit at the same hospital (Selly Oak) I was there for 3-4 weeks and i have been have had treatment and operations at Selly Oak Hospital when the hosptal closed down they moved into the new Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham where I've been having more treatment and operations.
