The Bus Shelter Dorset is a Charity which is being set up to end the need for anyone to sleep rough in Dorset.
We are raising funds to purchase a bus and convert it into a mobile shelter for rough sleepers.

We believe that if people have their basic needs of sleep, food, water, warmth and safety met they will be able to work positively on achieving their goals and improving their future.

The bus will be based in Weymouth and guests will be supported to register as homeless with their local council.
All guests on board will sign up to The Bus Shelter Dorset contract of expectations and be willing to accept the help on offer to them.

We are planning to invite other local services on board to support guests aswell and move them on into suitable accomodation.

Our aim is to break the cycle and routine of homelessness and allow rough sleepers the chance to regain their dignity and place in society by providing a much needed safe, secure and warm place to stay, where they can access the support they require to move on.

The bus itself will be renovated to include sleeping pods for up to 20 rough sleepers and 2 volunteers. There will be a wood burner and kitchen/lounge area and seating area for services to engage and support with rough sleepers on the bus during the day. The bus will be powered by solar panels on the roof of the bus.
Each sleeping pod will have its own curtain for privacy and low voltage LED lighting and USB plug.
Guests on the bus wil be given a PO BOX address so that they can access benefits, register with medical services and apply for jobs.

The bus will be run by volunteers initially and we welcome your support in any way.
