    Story

The BUTURI PROJECT believes every child deserves the best start in life with support to fulfil their potential. A child's experience in the early years has a major impact on their future life chances. Yet, statistics on early childhood in Africa are appalling. Less than 12 per cent of African children currently have no access to early childhood care and education.

So far, we have successfully built half a school building in the remote village of Buturi, Rorya District, Mara Region, Tanzania. This includes 8 toilets; 4 for boys and 4 for girls. Our goal is focused upon significantly improving levels of sanitation and hygiene for the whole of Buturi's School Academy.

We have successfully moved some of the children from outside, under a tree, to inside their first new classroom. By the end of 2017, we aim to have built 2 more classrooms to ensure that all Buturi School Academy children have a new secure learning environment away from the extreme burning sun. Access to education is fundamental in the fight against poverty. With your help, we can achieve this goal and allow the Buturi children to reach their full potential.

The photo above shows how the children are already progressing, showing their determination and resilience to continue with their learning. In order for these children to prosper, they now need to join their fellow students in the clean, protected environment of the next classroom. In order to complete this new classroom and help open the door for these children, we are appealing to raise a total of £4,000 in funds.

Please see the breakdown of where this money will go:

    1 x classroom = £4,100

    comprising:

    Bricks
    Cement
    Gravel
    Sand
    Stone
    +
    Wood for doors
    Window frames
    Tin roof
    Roof truss
    Nails for building

However much you can donate / or offer other assistance you can spare, no matter how small will help us significantly to complete these classrooms and start to close the door on these children's illiteracy forever.
