Crowdfunding is a new type of fundraising where you can raise funds for your own personal cause, even if you're not a registered charity.
The page owner is responsible for the distribution of funds raised.
Each year over a million British nationals travel to Thailand, where many will engage in the widely accepted custom of elephant riding. Of the three thousand elephants now working in the tourism trade, most will be subjected to systematic torture, drugging and starvation. Once broken, elephants are forced to work long hours on crowded city streets. I believe that many tourists would make more responsible decisions if they were made aware of these cruel practices.
Thankfully there are some amazing organisations in Thailand working to rescue elephants from the trade - I would like to spend time working with them. This will form the research phase of a larger art project, aiming to promote responsible tourism to western holiday makers. I will spend my time with the charity interviewing people and gathering opinions, taking photographs and making sketches. Upon returning to the UK the artwork will be collated into a beautiful and informative booklet and distributed free of charge.
I am fundraising to cover the cost of volunteering at the sanctuary and part of the printing costs of the publication.
Many thanks for reading
