On Saturday, 4th May 2019, firefighters from Torrington Fire Station are attempting the 'Everest Challenge' to raise money for the Fire Fighters' Charity and Torrington Silver Band. As a team, they will attempt to climb the equivalent of Mount Everest (29,029 feet!) using their appliance ladder.

The event will take place at Torrington Fire Station, and will commence at 8:00 am. Feel free to come along on the day and support the crew! There will be a cake sale and raffle!

The Fire Fighters' Charity is almost entirely funded through donations from the fire community and the public. They offer a wide range of services to help rehabilitate fire fighters past and present who have been injured physically or mentally whilst serving their communities. Torrington Silver Band have provided Torrington with a uniformed symphonic service for over 50 years. They regularly play at carnivals and fetes, and host concerts at their band hall several times throughout the year. They take a lead role in the towns Mayfair celebrations and attend many other events during the course of the year. They are almost completely self funded and are always trying to raise funds for new equipment and instruments to continue to offer their services to the town and surrounding communities.
