    Story

With ongoing childhood obesity and health issues globally, combined with more food businesses looking to sell high margin sugary drinks and snack products to an ever younger audience, we want to make a difference.

    Did you know…

    - The cost of obesity to the NHS in the UK is £5 billion per year.
    - Fruit & Veg consumption are critical to tackling type two diabetes.
    - Obesity is the number 3 global social burden after smoking and war/terrorism.
    - The UK consumes 240g of fruit and veg a day but the recommendation is 400g.
    - Children consume up to 85% more fruit and veg when they have fun names or shapes presented to them.
    - Six out of 10 UK children had no idea where the fruit and veg they eat comes from.

To raise awareness of the importance of fruit and veg in a truly unique manner, Max MacGillivray and Gareth Jones are motorbiking from London to Cape Town, South Africa, visiting a range of fruit and veg growers along the way. Starting on 8th Nov 2016, they plan to chronicle their story – and more importantly the story of the growers – to help raise awareness of how fruit and veg is grown and why it is brilliant for kids, their schools and their families. They are also raising money for their nominated charities as well. These are TUSK, a key wildlife charity for Africa, the Marshall Papworth Fund, they educate students from Africa on modern farming and finally Fairtrade.

Max said: “Fresh Produce is my lifelong passion and I’ve put my heart and soul into the industry so I was dismayed to read that the bulk of British children had no idea where the fruit and veg they eat comes from. Something had to be done. Gareth and I are very excited about the trip and even more so when we come back and see as many schools as possible the inform them all about fresh produce in a great and enlightening manner!" Please come and get involved and help us a make a difference.
