Hi All – BEGGING ALERT!

I`m participating in the Long Walk as I believe everyone should be more aware of Cancer, and of the ways we all can help and support those who have been diagnosed.

I have lost many close friends and relatives to it. Even now a very good friend is fighting for her life after developing breast cancer and having had a double mastectomy -the scourge has spread to her brain.

This three day walk across the island I love, over it’s highest peak, is something, very small, that I can do to help. It perfectly symbolises the long struggle that sufferers have endured. It is a walk in the park by no means – I know first hand that this walk will be, long and arduous as well as both physically and mentally challenging.

I suppose I started training for this a number of years ago when I volunteered to be a support vehicle driver, then started joining the rep’s walk on the last day of the event. Every year around one hundred tour reps, many of them colleagues and ex colleagues join the last 20km or so to the finish of this epic journey.

This year I’ve been training 3 times a week, and doing about 12 km a day, joining in the training walks with veteran Long Walkers, Eddie Timon and Paul Gilliam, and plan to attempt the entire 3 day walk, over a mountain, travelling 80km on foot (you should probably donate, just for me putting up with those grumpy buggers!)

I’m walking for many but in particular Sarah Jane James, Gail Needham, Amanda McInnes, my uncle and aunt Lila and Ivor Saville and my father Abel Walport

Every penny or cent we raise will be spent to support The Long Walk fund, which is donated every year to local Breast Cancer Association ACCMyG.org who support Women and Families faced with probably the greatest challange anyone can face, after a cáncer diagnoses, with a portion of the raised funds this year being given to our local Neighbours Food Project in Mogán (Nabhjelpen)

I hope you will support my effort, it’s going to be pretty painful, but I plan to succeed in crossing the island to show that no matter how big the challenge, the only way to get over it or through it is to put one foot in front of another and start moving.
