    Story

‘New Tiles for The Old Chapel’ is a fantastic opportunity to not only help restore a lovely community building but gives you the chance to leave your mark in our village for generations to come! Simply sponsor a tile (or two), receive a certificate and have your name recorded at The Old Chapel, leaving your own little legacy in our village.

This crowd funding page has been set up to financially support the renovation work needed at The Old Chapel in Gotherington (Gloucestershire).

(Suggested donation – £10 per tile)

    How much will it cost?

The total estimated cost for roof repairs to The Old Chapel is £20k. We need approximately 1000 new tiles and so would love to raise half of the full cost through sponsoring those tiles.

As a guide, we would love to receive £10 per tile but if you are happy to donate a larger amount, we will allocate more tiles to you! Why not sponsor some tiles and receive a certificate for your family? your children or a friend who has grown up or lived here? Whether you have a connection to Gotherington or just appreciate history and preserving buildings that make a difference to the community, we would love your support.

The Old Chapel is a wonderful building, used by our charity to host many lovely events that people in the village and beyond enjoy. It is also used by other local groups in the community including church groups, yoga & pilates, pre-school groups and is also available to hire for parties and gatherings. By helping us, you will have a special connection, knowing that you helped to fix our roof!

    Thank you!

    A Little History

In 2018 The Old Chapel was purchased by the newly formed charity ‘The Old Chapel Community Project’, with the help of many generous donations, to ensure that it would remain open to the community. The building was officially opened by local resident and Lord Lieutenant of Gloucestershire, Edward Gillespie, in November 2018 and since then the charity has organised a wide range of events from an Art and Photographic Exhibition, children’s craft events & Hedgehog Trail, History Talks, Remembrance Day museum, Traditional Games Club, live music and drama, Bingo and a monthly Film Club!

Before purchasing the building, essential works on the roof, rendering and causes of damp in The Old Chapel were identified and it was always the plan to raise enough funds to be able to carry these out to ensure that the building would see enjoyment by many future generation to come.

With recent grant funding successes, we have raised enough to ensure the work can begin this year, but we are still short of the full funding required to complete all the work needed and so we have set up the crowd funder ‘New Tiles for The Old Chapel’ to help bridge the gap.

If you would like to find out any more information about the project, please do visit our website at www.gotheringtonoldchapel.org.uk or if you have any questions you can email gotheringtonoldchapel@gmail.com.

Thank you for taking the time to read this, we are so grateful to the residents of Gotherington who have shown so much support for this project. If you haven’t been to Gotherington though, do come for a visit, we think it’s a very special spot in the beautiful Cotswolds!

It's been a fabulous week for sponsorship and tile signing! Thank you so much to everyone who has called in to sign their tiles, dogs included! As the tiles are being fitted next week, soon we won't be able to physically sign any more, but you can still sponsor as many tiles as you like and we would love to try and get the whole roof sponsored! Everyone who sponsors a tile will receive a certificate and be kept in our register of supporters (if you don't mind). If you want to remain completely anonymous that's absolutely fine too! Thank you!

The new trusses have been installed at The Old Chapel this week and work will continue on the roof next week - it's all very exciting!! Thank you so much to everyone who has sponsored a tile through this page, or by picking up a form at Gotherington Stores. So far 200 of our new tiles have been sponsored now, and we are looking to get these signed this week before they are fitted. There are still plenty more tiles to sponsor, if you would like to help us fund the new roof, please donate whatever you can. Thank you

As work finally begins to restore our lovely community building, we have relaunched this crowdfunding page, ‘New Tiles for The Old Chapel’ and would love to get our new tiles for the roof sponsored by friends and families with connections to our village, or anyone who would just love to be a part of this wonderful project. Our budget is as tight as ever and so your donations would really help us to reach the finishing line and enable us to complete the external and internal renovation of The Old Chapel in Gotherington. Thank you!
