Weʼve raised £305 to Buy a Sports Wheelchair for Thomas Mett to allow him to achieve success in a sport where it would be totally impossible to do so otherwise.

Funded on Monday, 23rd October 2017

    Story

Thomas was born 15th March 2002 and is now 15 years old. He was born with a very rare genetic condition called Mucopolysaccharidosis, (MPS1 Hurlers Syndrome).

He had a Bone Marrow Transplant at the age of 14months in Manchester Children`s Hospital 6th June 2004, and has subsequently, had many surgical operations since, Neck & Spine Fusions, a Surgical “Halo” fitted twice, Major Hip Operation, knee operations, etc. etc.

His condition is not curable though it is now managed. However he will be in a wheelchair for the rest of his life. He is a charming, cheery lad who has never complained about his medical condition and continues to maintain positivity.

In an attempt to succeed & achieve in life he has taken up Wheelchair football with Middlesbrough Power-chair Football Club & is now in a team in the Northern Area League.

The Chair he uses for football is an old “general use” chair. We are attempting to raise funds to buy a new Sports Wheel-Chair for him which will be to his specific needs. The chair has been identified as a “Strike Force” supplied by G5 Sports Services.

Unfortunately the chair costs approx. £7,000 so I am trying to raise that amount with the help of any charitable organisation.

This is not a charity, indeed Thomas is not an official charity, but any monies raised will be run correctly by myself, & be open to scrutiny at any time. There is facility for any funding acquired to be directly sent to G5 Sports services.

If you could be so benevolent as to donate anything, however small or large, to Thomas` Fund we would be eternally grateful. Thank you for accepting this letter.

    Yours Sincerely,

    Dave Leen (Thomas` Grandad)

Thomas was born 15 years ago 2002 with the rare genetic condition Mucoploysaccharidosis MPS1 Hurlers Syndrome. After many medical procedures including a Bone Marrow Transplant, he is confined to life in a wheelchair. He now plays for Boro Blues but needs a sports chair.
