    Story

THE PEAKY FINDERS - THREE PEAK CHALLENGE

6 local lads, George Rawlinson, Shaun Kelly, Jordan Kelly, Jamie Callister, Christian Penswick and Michael Valerga have come up with the idea of doing a challenge to climb the UK’s three highest mountains for charity. The 3 peak challenge consists of climbing Snowdonia, Scafell Pike and Ben Nevis all within 24 hours. For each climb completed, money raised will be shared between three charities. We will be completing this challenge on the 10th-11th August 2018.

We have decided to dedicate the scale of Ben Nevis, our first climb, ‘Hospice at Home’ who helped our friend Conall Hughes and his family. Sadly, Conall lost his life this year after a long, hard fight with illness. Conall was someone who was forever giving to people and would go further than most to help someone out. He was a very well known man who was at the heart of most sports going on in Ramsey, each of us doing this challenge have at some point been mentored, motivated, taught or congratulated by Conall whether it be football, golf or darts he would show his support regardless. In the last months, days and hours of his life, him and his family were supported by the ‘Hospice at Home’ Charity. This charity aim to provide care through high quality nursing to patients, families and friends in the home environment.

The second Charity we have chosen is the Queen’s Pier Restoration Trust. Spurred on by Tom Durrant, the QPRT have developed the aim of restoring and bringing back Ramsey’s Queen’s Pier. The stories that are told and the history surrounding the pier, we feel it is a great opportunity to give back to the island by supporting its heritage. The charity is hard working and is constantly aiming to move forward, supporting a motive we would like to follow in specifically our climb of Scafell Pike and the challenge as a whole. Being a Ramsey man himself, we plan to use the raised funds for this charity to go towards an engraved plank with Conall’s name on to make up part of the pier.

Last but not least, the third charity we intend to support is the ‘Rebecca House Foundation’. Rebecca House offers the highest possible standards of care and support to each child and their families. It enables children and families to cope with their illness and lead as full and normal life as possible. The pain, suffering and heartbreak the patients and their families go through, and the work this charity does to help is something we could not turn a blind eye to. Our final climb is Mount Snowdon, Wales and we would like to dedicate the climb to all involved with Rebecca House Isle of Man.

Raising money to help support these amazing charities is our number one aim and we would very much appreciate all donations no matter how big or small! All Funds will be getting shared equally between the three charities.

    Many Thanks,

George, Shaun, Jord, Jamie, Christian and Mike
